TIME - THE MASTER

I have this peculiar ability to hold an entire conversation in my mind before uttering a single word to anyone. I’m not certain if there’s a formal term for it, but it’s something I often find myself doing.

This morning, as I stood in the shower preparing for work, I reminded myself to hurry so I could be on time. While rushing through my routine, I envisioned the scene that might unfold afterward. I imagined stepping out of the bathroom to hear someone in the household exclaim, “Are you finished bathing already?” followed by another voice responding, “Yes, she doesn’t waste time.”
In my mind, I could hear my own reply as well: “It’s not about how quickly I showered. It’s about the strategy, the skills I used to be efficient yet thorough.”
At that moment, the old saying "time is the master" resurfaced in my thoughts. It sparked a deeper question: Is time truly the master? Are we simply living according to time’s demands, waiting for it to dictate when we can accomplish our goals? Do we have to sit idly by, expecting time to get us to where we want to be in life?
But then I reflected on God’s sovereignty. Isn’t it more accurate to say that because we serve a God who governs all things, we need not be enslaved by time? Scripture reminds us that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will grant us the desires of our hearts. Perhaps our faith and trust in God hold greater power than the ticking of the clock.

Embracing the Value of Every Moment
The Psalmist beautifully captures the urgency of a life lived with intent:
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
This verse invites us to see every day as a finite opportunity to reflect God’s love, to invest in our relationships, and to pursue righteousness. Far too often, we let our days slip away, neglecting the precious moments gifted by our Creator.
Practical Steps for Using Time Wisely
Start with Prayer: Begin each day by asking for God's wisdom to use your time effectively (James 1:5).
Set Priorities: Identify tasks that advance God’s kingdom, nurture relationships, or develop your spiritual walk (Matthew 6:33).
Eliminate Distractions: Avoid anything that pulls you away from God’s purpose, whether it’s procrastination or unnecessary commitments (Ephesians 5:15-16).
Schedule Rest: Rest is part of God’s design for productivity. The Sabbath principle reminds us to pause and reconnect with God (Exodus 20:8-10).
