Every day that we are alive is a privileged blessing as we are given the opportunity to make a fresh start. We have the chance to say, 'I'm sorry' or ' I was wrong, please forgive me' or to say, 'I love you'. We have the opportunity to right our wrongs and get back on the path of righteousness.

Solomon in Proverbs 16:1 reminds us that God has the final say in the plans we make. While we know God gives us free will, we must remember to consult Him for direction in every area of our lives. Jesus reminded His disciples in Matthew 10:19 that they would be brought before governors and kings for His sake, but they should not worry about what to say because they would be given the words they need to speak. In Exodus 4:12 God told Moses He would be with his mouth and teach him what to say when he went before Pharoah to speak on behalf of the children of Israel. These are examples of the truth that God's word is final in the affairs of man.
We sometimes decide to do things before consulting God, but we should really seek Him first and then align our plans according to the direction He gives. Many times, we think our ways are right even when we know otherwise, but God weighs the spirit - He knows our motives. When Saul was persecuting Christians as far as he was concerned, he was doing right. When Ananias and Sapphira sold their land and kept back a portion of the money, they thought it was okay to lie, but they were wrong because they vowed to give everything.
Sometimes we do things and although we know we are wrong we allow fear or pride to hinder us from admitting our wrong. We need to realize that God knows our hearts. Remember Peter in the courtyard after Jesus' arrest. Jesus told Peter before he denied Him that he would deny Him thrice before the cock crew.
Proverbs 16:3 exhorts us to commit our works to the LORD and our thoughts shall be established. Can we truly say we have committed everything we have ever done or desired to do unto the LORD? Maybe we have committed our plans to the LORD, but sometimes we don't give Him full control because when things seem to be taking longer than we expect, we go right back to regain control of the situation. To commit something means to release it, to roll every care on the LORD. If we are honest with ourselves, we can say there are things we have not fully committed to the LORD and until we acknowledge this, we will be in our wilderness of waiting longer than necessary.
We know that everything was created by God and for God. The same God who created Joseph also created his brothers who sold him into slavery. It was this same God who, through Joseph, saved his brothers' and many other lives (Genesis 50:20). Sometimes things happen to us, and we ask, 'why me', but sometimes we need to change our perspective and ask, 'what do I need to learn from this situation'.
Dear friend, sometimes it is in our hour of seeming disappointment, loss or failure that our gifts become most visible like stars on a very dark night. Yet there are times in life when we become so blinded by pride that we fail to acknowledge our wrong or admit that we were once in a similar position. Luckily for the prodigal son (Luke 15:17-20) he acknowledged the error of his ways, returned to his father, confessed, repented and was given a second chance at life. The prodigal son followed the divine GPS before it was too late for him to return home. He allowed good sense to prevail and was able to get back to right standing with his father. How many of us feel the nudge of the Holy Spirit and yet ignore it and do otherwise only to find that we delay our breakthrough or blessing?
As we reflect on the year 2024, let us be grateful for our wins, whether great or small and celebrate those victories. Let us track where we went wrong and do our best to use those disappointments or losses as steppingstones for the victorious moments this year.
As we chart the course of 2025, may we follow the divine GPS as we seek to have a deeper more meaningful relationship with God and experience divine encounters that will propel us into our God ordained purpose. May we desire the sincere milk of the Word that we will grow thereby, and may we allow the Almighty God to order our steps as we put Him first in everything we do.
