Romans 12: 2 - Be transformed by the renewing of your mind is an exhortation for us to change. The question is, how do we renew our minds? To be renewed means to start over, to make new or replenish. Daily renewal takes place when we study, read and meditate on the Word of God, and through prayer and fasting. In essence Paul was encouraging us in this portion of scripture to be converted by changing our way of thinking. We need to put off our worldly/fleshly desires and way of thinking and take on the mind of Christ.

Paul was the perfect example of a transformed/renewed person. He had a personal encounter with the LORD on the road to Damascus, on his way to arrest, imprison and persecute Christians (Acts 9). One songwriter penned, "There must be a change when Jesus touch you. There must be a change when the blood reaches your heart." Indeed, there was a great change and Saul was converted. What s transformation!
Like Saul, when we have our encounter with God, and accept Him as Lord and Saviour of our lives, transformation must be evident in our lives. Others must see Christ in us. We must shine as beacons of light for Christ as we help lead others to Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, 'If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.' Therefore, when we are born again, we must shed everything from our old nature and become new as we take on the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Saul's conversion led him to writing half of the New Testament and through his ministry many saints were added to the church daily. Like Paul, when transformation takes place in our lives, we must make it our aim and determination to crucify flesh and be transformed as our minds are renewed. Let us make Paul's testimonies in Galatians 3:20, Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18 our motto. Let us pray daily like David's in Psalm 51:10 as we seek a right spirit within us.
If God did it for Saul, you and I have no excuse regardless of our past, ethnicity. color, creed or country. God can transform us. Saul asked, "LORD, what would you have me to do?"
Let us avail ourselves so God can affect the necessary change and transform us.
Questions to ponder:
Are we, Christians truly transformed?
Are we converted?
Have we truly put off the nature of the old man and taken on Christ?
Are we operating in the "right" spirit?
Transformed Christians do not hesitate to stand up for what is right in the sight of God.
Transformed people live by God's standards and authority.
Transformed people honor God not only with their lips but also with their lives.
Transformed people live according to God's code of conduct which is the Word of God.
Let us, who have been transformed, daily renew our minds that we may be consistently on repentance ground and living in humility.
For those who are yet to be converted, I exhort you to seek the LORD and ask Him to affect the needed transformation so you too can shine as a beacon of His love and light and lead others to newness of life in Him.
God bless you.
