Let’s hear it from Minister Blessed as he opens up about the experience and message behind his latest release.

PAJE: How would you summarize the message or theme of this song in just a few sentences?

MINISTER BLESSED: I'd describe the theme as Fun, Good Vibes, Joyous, Spiritual, Uplifting, Energetic. The message being to enjoy life and rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4)

PAJE: What made you choose this particular sound or vibe for the song—whether it’s upbeat, reflective, soulful, or worshipful?

MINISTER BLESSED: I didn't choose it. It chose me haha. Much credit to Kemoy Rowe of Yagga Muzik Productions for creating an amazing upbeat and infectious instrumental. Officially called the 'Carib Vybz Riddim', it provided the perfect avenue for me to do a song in a way that would give it that summer and Caribbean feeling which is ultimately what I wanted for 'Fun Inna Di Son'.

PAJE: Can you break down a specific lyric or line in the song that carries deep meaning for you?

MINISTER BLESSED: The first four lines of the second verse resonate with me most:

'Inna di pool me a dive and chuck off, All of my sins dem Jesus just wash off.

Plan of the enemy cancel and put off. Inna glow we have, da light ya can't lock off!"

The above reminds me where I'm coming from and all the times I falled short YET still God forgives and washes me anew. It also serves as an encouragement to keep going despite the trials or even when you feel like you're not getting support - the passion and purpose burns deep within me so we press on with God's mandate regardless.

PAJE: How did the song evolve from the first idea to the final version we hear today?

MINISTER BLESSED:

I first conceptualized the song in April 2018 with the hope it would be released in June that same year. It started out as a moderately paced song that would fit a steady dancehall rhythm with a summer flavour.

I also wrote it to be a collaboration between myself and a well known gospel group so the idea was that we would each take turns in the chorus and different lines in the verses and bridge etc.

Unfortunately the collaboration didn't materialise beyond a demo so after almost a year of trying, I parked the song. Fast forward to April 2025, Yagga Muzik Productions reached out to me to be a part of their summer riddim project. When I played the riddim the first time, it immediately gave me that summer feeling and it brought back to memory the song I had written 7 years ago.

I did wonder though if it would still be as relevant or potent given so many years had passed, so I began toying with the idea of just writing a brand new song. However, no matter how I tried to focus on writing something totally new, I felt the Holy Spirit continually tugging on my heart to stick with the Fun Inna Di Son concept. I stuck to it, tweaking the melody, revamping the style and creating some new lyrics that would be more fitting to the Carib Vybz Riddim.

PAJE: Did you experiment with any unique musical elements, styles, etc for this song?

MINISTER BLESSED: Not on purpose but this ended up being the case based on the experience noted above. The song essentially transitioned from a more normal paced dancehall instrumental meant to feature a variety of vocalists and styles; to a more upbeat caribbean flavour rhythm tailored to suit a solo vocalist.

PAJE: What role does this song play within your broader body of work; does it mark a shift, continuation, or fresh start?

MINISTER BLESSED: I consider myself a man of variety and diversity so I do love to try different sounds. I wouldn't say the song marks a shift or fresh start but rather just adds a different flavour and extension to my catalogue now having a summer song.

PAJE: How did you balance personal expression with crafting something that others could also worship or relate to?

MINISTER BLESSED: I have learnt over the years that ultimately my music is not just for me. It's about the audience, the listener - how will it impact, benefit or edify them.

So the crafting of the song definitely moves from subjective to objective - considering how it would relate to different cultures and audiences within Christendom and also the wider world at large.

PAJE: Were there any lyrics, melodies, or moments in the song that came unexpectedly or felt like a direct download from God?

MINISTER BLESSED: I do consider this song to be a direct download from God. Of Course there are times when you write from experiences or circumstances you've been through or observed others but this song concept came as pure inspiration from the Holy Spirit. I wasn't thinking of an experience or reflecting on anything or saying to myself I need a summer song. It just drop inna me spirit buff bap.

PAJE: How do you hope this song sounds or feels in different settings—alone with God, in a car ride, or in a worship gathering?

MINISTER BLESSED: I am picturing this being a song that people will vibe to while cleaning the house, doing their workout routines, or driving in their car. I also envision it being a great song to do in a space where God's people are gathered for corporate worship like a concert, summer camp, musical festival, sports day etc. Just having nice clean fun

PAJE: What impact do you hope this song has in the lives of those who hear it—spiritually, emotionally, or even practically?

MINISTER BLESSED: My hope is for this song to find its place at celebratory events and functions where Christians can feel comfortable playing gospel music appropriate for the occasion without the need to draw for a secular song. I am also hoping it shows the world that we can have nice clean fun and enjoyment without the need to be lewd, explicit or PG rated.

PAJE: What would you say to someone who’s currently struggling to use their gifts or feels unseen in their creative calling?

MINISTER BLESSED: These seasons are an inevitable part of being a Creative. Always remember the WHY you do what you do as the love, passion and calling will always exceed any outward applause. I'd also encourage fellow creatives to see the value of repurposing old material.

I used to see songs as seasonal so if I had a song I wrote from years ago and in a particular season that was never released, I would just say it's time passed so throw it in the bin. However, as Jamaicans would say 'whey no dead no dash wey!" Fun Inna Di Son is the perfect example of this taking 7 years to come to fruition but turning out much better and more impactful than I could have envisioned or imagined.

PAJE: Were there any challenges or breakthroughs during the songwriting or recording process?

MINISTER BLESSED: Most of this has been answered in point 4 where I described how the song evolved. However, I'll add that I experienced some delays in recording the song this April due to a bad case of the flu.

Also, specifically trying to match the original melody and lyrics to the new instrumental was a challenge BUT the Holy Spirit really helped me find a breakthrough. For example in the original the phrase Fun Inna Di Son was only said once when mentioned whereas this version it works better repeating the phrase twice. Also mixing bits from the original intro and first verse worked well combining those lyrics on the current verse 2. The 1st and 3rd verse along with the outro are completely new lyrics and melodies.
